I'm new and I came across this article discussing how insurance agents are moving into full financial planning roles. The focus now is moving away from selling to giving real advice. Is this common across firms now? And for someone just starting out, does ICP or WMCP actually help your planning approach better? Thanks!

Yes, it's becoming a trend and with ethe growing need for practitioners, it's not wonder we're seeing this shift. For someone starting out, I'd say go with WMCP because it will offer everything you'll need as an advice-first advisor. ICP isn't quite into personal finance, so I doubt it's going to help you with clients.

I agree with @Cloudcatcher11. The industry as a whole if shifting towards a more advice-driven model. Many firms are recognizing the value of holistic planning over just product sales. And yes, WMCP could be a good foundational designation but many successful planners also pursue CFP certification. That's widely recognized as the gold standard for comprehensive financial planning.

Its funny how too many insurance agents calling themselves "financial planners" without deep planning knowledge waters down the profession...certs like ICP or WMCP help, but real credibility comes from experience, not titles or sales tactics.

Absolutely! At the end of the day, it's the real-world experience and know-how that really count, not just some fancy titles or certificates hanging on the wall.
