Doing CE just to punch a clock

I've been in this game long enough to remember when continuing education meant actually learning something new, not just clicking through slides so you could stay on the registry. These days, half the CE feels like watching paint dry just to keep your letters after your name.
Does anyone actually walk away from these courses with something useful or are we all just playing along?

okay, maybe you don't find the course material itself valuable, but the networking opportunities can be great, rights?
The broader, more 'generic' refreshers usually fall into the 'punching the clock' category. Are there any specialized organizations or conferences in your field that offer CE? Those tend to be of better quality

Why has continuing education turned into more of a box-checking exercise than actual learning? It feels like we're all just pretending to stay sharp while clicking through the same tired slides

@RibsRiot You make a fair point. The networking can be a silver lining. I'll admit I haven't looked beyond the usual big providers in years but you're right, it's time I did some digging into the more specialized conferences. Great suggestion.

@Marriot_ That's exactly it, we're all just going through the motions to keep the alphabet soup after our names. It's a shame.
